Data protection issues between threads, seeking guidance

I met the question now is whether this
There is a process, a signal processing function of signal
Then create a thread, the thread every 20ms a signal to the raise to send their own
You create a thread, the main thread into a while (1) cycle
The main thread will invoke some interface functions, global variables, etc.
The signal processing function will also call to the function interface, global variables

This gives each global variable and mutex to protect the workload is bigger, and the function also has reference each other, mutual exclusion lock is not too good, timely and feeling of safety or not guarantee

Do not know to have a convenient method to realize the protection of inter thread data, seeking guidance

The signal is always the final consideration, mutex, condition variables is the right way.

You can change a way, change.!
I also said lock mutex would be more convenient

The problem is I signal processing functions in the interface must be called once every 20ms
But my main circulating in some function interface, performing a more than 100 ms, so I just want to use the signal trigger

For reference only
//Circulation to the a function sends 200 byte length (which is fixed) buffer,
//The incoming buffer requires a function, consisting of 240 bytes (and fixed) new buffer processing,
//Every time in the processing time from two bytes to print from the new buffer
